Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra Presents MOZART SYMPHONY NO. 39
May 19, 2018 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
50 Years of LACO concludes poignantly with a conductor-less program spotlighting the Orchestra itself. It includes Vivaldi’s Concerto Grosso No. 11 in D Minor, the first work LACO ever performed, 50 years ago. ‘LACO has a rich history of presenting conductor-less programs,’ says Harrison, ‘which is a testament to the leadership displayed by our 40 virtuoso resident musicians and the depth of their artistic interaction.’ The Orchestra also performs Derrick Spiva’s From Here A Path, the second part of a trilogy for chamber orchestra inspired by LACO, Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1 in E-Flat Major, featuring Joshua Roman, and Mozart’s Symphony No. 39 in E-flat major.
Program includes:
Grant Gershon – conductor
Margaret Batjer– leader & violin
Joshua Roman – cello
VIVALDI – Concerto Grosso in D minor, Op. 3, No. 11
SHOSTAKOVICH – Cello Concerto No. 1 in E-flat major
DERRICK SPIVA JR. – From Here a Path (revised), Part II of the Prisms, Cycles, Leaps Suite (world premiere)
MOZART – Symphony No. 39 in E-flat major, K. 543
Programs and artists subject to change.
7:00 PM – Pre-Concert Preludes – Ticket includes admission. Some Preludes feature LIVE performances of short chamber works. All provide interesting insights into the music and artists.
