43rd Assembly District Photography Competition

Assemblymember Laura Friedman is happy to announce that her office has begun taking submissions for the second 43rd Assembly District Photography Competition.

Last year, photographers used their talents and skills to explore and tell the stories of the communities that make up the 43rd Assembly District. This year, she is again calling upon photographers to capture the identity of our communities and neighborhoods.

Twenty photographs will be selected to be displayed at a gallery event hosted by Assemblymember Laura Friedman on October 11th in Glendale. At this event she will announce ten winning photographs that will be displayed at her Capitol and District offices for one year.

All ages and levels of proficiency are welcome to participate. Photographs will be judged anonymously by a panel of professional photographers. The works will be scored on the participant’s ability to communicate and capture the story of their community.

You must be a resident of Assembly District 43 to compete. All formats (digital, film) will be accepted. Photo content must be presentable to general audiences; no photos containing violence, profanity, or other explicit subject matter will be accepted.

Submissions will be accepted online or by mail to the District Office.

Competition Rules and Guidelines

1. Limit two entries per person.

2. Photographs must have been taken within the 43^rd Assembly District by residents who live in the 43^rd District. Only photographs of the district and by residents of the district will be accepted.

3. Works must be submitted by the person who originally took the photograph.

4. Photographs should be no older than January 1, 2017. Newer photographs taken for the competition are preferred.

5. Works containing violence, profanity, or other explicit subject matter not suitable for a general audience will not be considered in the competition.

6. Works will be judged blindly by a panel of professional photographers on the following criteria: Technique, Aesthetics, and their ability to capture the story and essence of their neighborhood or community within AD43. Submissions will be considered in two categories: amateur and professional.
