One Year: The Art of Politics in Los Angeles
Throughout history, artists have been activists – digging beneath the surface, posing the critical questions, challenging authority and calling the public to action. In today’s contentious climate, LA artists are responding with new urgency, seeking to tell their truth in an era when truth is becoming a precious commodity. Brand Library & Art Center is pleased to present ONE YEAR: The …Art of Politics in Los Angeles, a group exhibition of over 20 Los Angeles-based artists who have been addressing issues like immigration, race, gender and environment as an integral part of their practice. Conceived and organized by Joey Forsyte, Lawrence Gipe and Alex Kritselis, the selected artists are diverse in culture, identity and age. They present a multiplicity of voices who construct a narrative from a wide range of disciplines including video, painting, drawing, fiber arts, ceramics, mixed media and photography.
The artists of ONE YEAR: The Art of Politics in Los Angeles are united in their desire to inspire awareness, as well as manifest their deep political convictions through their art.
ARTISTS: Kim Abeles, Guillermo Bert, Eileen Cowin, Kohshin Finley, Joey Forsyte, Keiko Fukazawa, Lawrence Gipe, Mark Steven Greenfield, Scott Grieger, Emily Halpern, Nery Gabriel Lemus, Alex Kritselis, Constance Mallinson, Star Montana, Amitis Motevalli, Thinh Nguyen, Umar Rashid (Frohawk Two Feathers), Ben Sakoguchi, Alexis Smith, Linda Vallejo, and HK Zamani.
