SUMMARY:Antaeus Theatre Company Summer Class: Voice\, Presence & Classical Text
DESCRIPTION:Moderated by Scott Ferrara\nThursday\, 1-5pm (7/25-9/12)\nClass Fee: $400 (Early Bird Discount $350 if paid in full by 7/11)\nClass Size: 12-14\n\n\n\nTheater\, film\, and television all call for vocal strength\, flexibility\, and specificity. Students will add more variety to the expression of their voices\, in terms of pitch\, volume\, and singing by strengthening the “support” for their voices. Students will work on Classical Text with their voice work\, further developing the awareness\, trust and freedom with breathing\, body\, feelings\, imagination\, and voice. \n  \n\n\nCourse Instructor\n \nScott Ferrara\nAt Antaeus: Les Liaisons Dangereuses. SUMMARY:Antaeus Theatre Company Summer Class: It’s Alive! The Nuts And Bolts Of Acting In New Plays

Working actors need to know how to make an unforgettable impression in staged readings and rehearsals of “plays-in-process”\, but these skills aren’t generally taught in conservatories. In this class\, students will work with the Lab Director of the Antaeus Playwrights Lab on compelling scripts by some of today’s hottest playwrights. Featured guests will include prominent directors and writers whose works are being produced on Los Angeles stages. Students will learn how to audition for new plays\, analyze text both quickly and deeply\, make bold\, visceral acting choices\, and slay in staged readings. We will also discuss the nuts and bolts business of acting in the L.A. theater world. If there are writers in the class\, there may be a Lab-style session to read their work! For the class culmination\, students will rehearse and perform a public staged reading of a new play at Antaeus\, working closely with the playwright. (Please note that the final session of the class will be the public performance on Monday\, July 15\, at 7pm.) \n\n\nCourse Instructor\n \nEmily Chase\nEmily Chase is a longtime company member\, and facilitates the Antaeus Playwrights Lab.  Director: Divorce Court Hell and several original one-act plays (Antaeus)\, A Little House Christmas (Sierra Madre Playhouse)\, Round and Round the Garden and Real Inspector Hound (Theater 40); And Know That I am God (Road Theatre) and projects at  Moving Arts\, Met Theater\, Classical Theater Lab\, Strasberg\, Road Theater\, Playwrights Union\, etc.  Actress: South Coast Rep\, Taper Too\, Antaeus Company\, El Portal\, Getty Center\, John Anson Ford Theater; also web series\, TV\, and film. SUMMARY:Crowell Public Library Presents: Andre Giraldo: Classical Guitar
DESCRIPTION:Come to Crowell Public Library on Sunday\, June 30 at 2:00 pm for a relaxing\, thoroughly enjoyable hour of lyrical solo guitar music performed by Andre Giraldo. His song selection will include works by Heitor Villa Lobos from Brazil\, Nikita Koshkin from Russia and Jorge Morel from Argentina. There is something for everyone from the serious classical music aficionado to the casual listener\, and it will also be a great opportunity to expose children to a live music experience in a casual environment. \nAndre believes in the power of music to transcend boundaries and enrich the lives of those who engage with it\, and his goal is to reach as wide an audience as possible and connect with audiences. The solo project ties into his goal of trying to spread culture and arts engagement with the community using the library system as the focal point for information and culture. He has performed extensively both as a soloist and chamber musician at guitar societies and various libraries and around the area including Sierra Madre\, San Clemente\, Aliso Viejo\, Cerritos\, and Santa Monica. \nAndre Giraldo is a Los Angeles-based guitarist who performs widely both as a soloist and as a member of The Artisan Guitar Ensemble\, a guitar trio formed during his time studying at Cal State Fullerton. He has performed in master classes for Ronald Dyens\, Pavel Steidl\, Martha Masters and many others and has studied privately with John Dearman\, and Richard Turner and David Grimes. He received his B.M. in Classical Guitar Performance from CSUF. But Andre believes that the best classroom is the stage itself\, and continually seeks the opportunity to perform in order to reach new levels as a musician. \nCome learn about the composers and their music and stay after to chat with the performer or ask questions you may have! All are invited and we hope to see you here for this special event.

SUMMARY:Abril Books Presents: Meet Mark Arax\, author of The Dreamt Land
DESCRIPTION:Abril Bookstore cordially invites you a to meet \n\nMARK ARAX\n\nAuthor of the newly released book \nTHE DREAMT LAND\n\nChasing Water and Dust Across California \nIntroduced by JESSE KATZ\nJames Beard award-winning author\n \n\n\n\n\nWEDNESDAY\, JUNE 26\, 2019– 7:30PM\nABRIL BOOKSTORE\n415 E. Broadway\, Glendale\, CA 91205\nAdmission is Free. For more information\, call (818) 243-4112.\n\n\n\n\nTHE DREAMT LAND is a heartfelt\, beautifully written book about the land and the people who have worked it–from gold miners to wheat ranchers to small fruit farmers and today’s Big Ag. Since the beginning\, Californians have redirected rivers\, drilled ever-deeper wells and built higher dams\, pushing the water supply past its limit. The Dreamt Land weaves reportage\, history and memoir to confront the “Golden State” myth in riveting fashion. No other chronicler of the West has so deeply delved into the empires of agriculture that drink so much of the water. The nation’s biggest farmers–the nut king\, grape king and citrus queen–tell their story here for the first time.\n\n\nMARK ARAX is an author and journalist whose writings on California and the West have received numerous awards for literary nonfiction. A former staffer at the Los Angeles Times\, his work has appeared in The New York Times and the California Sunday Magazine. His books include a memoir of his father’s murder\, a collection of essays about the West\, and the best-selling The King of California\, which won a California Book Award\, the William Saroyan Prize from Stanford University\, and was named a top book of 2004 by the Los Angeles Times and the San Francisco Chronicle. He lives in Fresno\, California.
