SUMMARY:Musical Theatre Guild presents ZORBA
DESCRIPTION:Musical Theatre Guild presents a staged concert version of\nZORBA \nMusic: John Kander\nLyrics: Fred Ebb\nBook: Joseph Stein\nBased on Nikos Kazantzakis’s novel and the subsequent film Zorba the Greek \nProlific and ever versatile composers Kander and Ebb travel us to Greece with one of their most beautifully evocative scores. Based on the 1952 novel and 1964 classic film\, we meet the exuberant and passionate Zorba as he befriends a fledgling American writer who confronts his own life choices when he falls in love with a local widow. As bluntly sung at the top of show…’Life is what you do while you’re waiting to die.’ Earthy\, practical and ultimately true. \nZORBA opened on Broadway in 1968 in a production starring Hershel Bernardi and directed by Harold Prince. It ran for 305 performances and was nominated for 8 Tony© Awards with Boris Aronson winning for his scenic design. It was revived on Broadway in 1983 starring Anthony Quinn.

SUMMARY:Leo Eguiarte & Melly Trochez: RITUAL/S
DESCRIPTION:Leo Eguiarte’s ongoing series delves into a world of symbolism and graphic imagery\, reflecting Eguiarte’s interests in signs and everyday ritual. While much of the work suggests esoterism and metaphysical states or landscapes\, Eguiarte’s approach is particularly subtle\, focusing on the unspoken customs that particular groups or individuals practice daily. As a kind of re-appropriation of what he sees as an already-appropriated point of view of some occultist groups and beliefs\, his imagery evolves out of any concrete attachment to belief or practice\, and enters into a meticulous and precise graphic world with simple vocabularies. His circuit panel series strives toward a kind of streamlined perfection: symmetrical lines\, patterned dots\, concentric circles\, prisms and a consistently limited color scheme of magenta\, pink and turquoise that allow for infinite variations on a theme. \nMelly Trochez’s work deals specifically with rituals: activities that are passed on culturally through generations that become embedded in notions of identity. Particularly interested in observing – and often commenting on – standards of beauty in Latina culture\, Trochez’s larger format acrylic paintings depict characters from her own life (sometimes even herself) participating in beautifying routines: ironing and bleaching hair\, applying sunblock\, mirror gazing – many rituals that become unconscious\, those that we forget why we even began doing them. Comments made when we were younger\, images seen during developing years\, advice and critique passed down through generations become an everyday practice. Trochez is pointing at these through her depictions that carry the cultural focus to an image. In doing so\, she highlights these rituals and brings them into question – a question that feels more like curiosity\, or a simple noticing\, rather than outward critique or commentary. \nOpening Reception: November 17\, 2018\, 7:00 – 10:00 pm \nGallery Hours: Tuesday\, 1:00 – 6:00 pm; Wednesday & Thursday\, 11:00 – 4:00 or by appointment \nace/121 Gallery is located at 121 N. Kenwood Street\, Glendale CA 91206 (entrance via Louise and the YMCA Parking lot). \nThis exhibit is made possible by the Eisner Foundation and LA County Arts Commission. SUMMARY:Right Angle Entertainment presents RAFFI
DESCRIPTION:As the world’s best-selling children’s entertainer\, pioneering troubadour Raffi has spent more than four decades delighting successive generations of kids—and their parents—with his playful\, exuberant personality and his irresistibly infectious songs. \nRaffi is a singer\, songwriter\, producer\, author\, lecturer\, and tireless advocate for children. He is best known for his work as a children’s entertainer whose string of gold and platinum-selling recordings in North America includes his classic song\, ‘Baby Beluga.’ Once called ‘the most popular children’s singer in the English-speaking world’ (Washington Post) and ‘Canada’s all time children’s champion’ (Toronto Star)\, Raffi is also a recipient of the Order of Canada and the United Nations’ Earth Achievement Award. He has published three books and holds four honorary degrees. He has never advertised to children or made any commercial endorsements aimed at kids. His commitment to treating his young fans with respect changed society’s outlook on music made for children. \n‘It’s great fun singing for children and families\,’ says Raffi. ‘As well as singing many of my fans’ favorites\, I look forward to sharing a song or two from my Love Bug album and my new one\, Owl Singalong—and to the sounds of all of us singing old favourites from my very first album!’ \nSpecial offer! Every pair of tickets for this show includes your choice of a digital download or CD of Raffi’s forthcoming album\, Dog on the Floor OR The Best of Raffi. You will receive an email with more details about this offer approximately 7 days after your ticket purchase. \nFor customer service inquiries concerning the digital download or CD:\nContact help@MusicRedemptions.com
