SUMMARY:Musical Theatre Guild Presents KISMET
DESCRIPTION:Single Tickets go on sale at 12:00 AM on 08/19/19 \nMusical Theatre Guild presents a Staged Concert Version of\nKISMET \nMusic & Lyrics: Robert Wright & George Forrest from the themes of Alexander Borodin\nBook: Charles Lederer & Luther Davis\nBased on the play by Edward Knoblock \nSet in the exotic time of the fabled Arabian Nights\, KISMET spins the fateful adventure-filled tale of glib-tongued street poet Hajj\, a resourceful seller of rhymes\, and his beautiful daughter Marsinah. It weaves a lush tapestry of romance and melody and features many favorites including ‘Stranger in Paradise\,’ ‘And This Is My Beloved’ and ‘Baubles\, Bangles and Beads.’ \nThe Los Angeles Civic Light Opera commissioned composers Wright and Forrest to adapt the luscious classical melodies of Alexander Borodin. KISMET premiered in Los Angeles before opening on Broadway in 1953 during the middle of a newspaper strike. Having no reviews to help sell tickets\, KISMET was perhaps the first musical to use the power of television to promote a show. It ran for 583 performances\, starring Alfred Drake\, Joan Diener and Richard Kiley. The recipient of three Tony® Awards\, including Best Musical\, KISMET was adapted into an MGM film in 1955. \nPERFORMANCE ADVISORY\nLate Seating: Latecomers will be seated at the discretion of the event’s Presenter

SUMMARY:Los Angeles Ballet Presents THE SLEEPING BEAUTY
DESCRIPTION:The Sleeping Beauty is one of the greatest and most treasured story ballets of all time. Inspired by Charles Perrault’s story ‘La belle au bois dormant’ or ‘The beauty sleeping in the wood\,’ Marius Petipa created this wonderful production\, considered to be the most authentic of his work and the epitome of classical ballet. This cherished story\, however\, represents much more than just a fairytale. It is about our potential inner beauty that lies dormant\, poisoned by the powers of evil\, forced into hiding and left to wait to be awakened by the power of love. \nPERFORMANCE ADVISORY\nLate Seating: Latecomers will be seated at the discretion of the event’s Presenter

SUMMARY:Solo Performance Festival
DESCRIPTION:Glendale Arts presents its inaugural Solo Performance Festival\, featuring Los Angeles artists Ernie Silva\, Ruthy Otero\, and Eternal Mind. \n\n\nThe festival of work features 3 solo performances from Los Angeles-based artists over 3 nights\, including Ernie Silva\, Ruthy Otero\, and Eternal Mind. \nNovember 3 @ 8pm – “Nobody Knows my Name” featuring Eternal Mind with an introduction from Ernie Silva and Ruthy Otero. A poet\, a classroom and an intergenerational debate. All the fire starting elements of today’s world will make Nobody Knows my Name the funny\, profound and reflective story so many of us love\, cheer\, and crave for in this day and age. Everyone leaves this story feeling life pulsating as the brilliant Actor/Poet Eternal Mind takes us through a journey of metaphors and wordplay to shake us to the core. \nNovember 4 @ 8pm – “Dancing with my Demons” featuring Ruthy Otero with an introduction from Ernie Silva and Eternal Mind. A 60-minute comedy that wrestles with the most loathsome F word: FEAR. Through storytelling\, physical comedy and disco music\, this show holds up a mirror to the painfully funny ways we either move through fear\, or let it keep us stuck. \nNovember 5 @ 8pm – “Heavy” featuring Ernie Silva with an introduction from Ruthy Otero and Eternal Mind. A story about a Brooklyn kid from the projects\, who ventures into the life written about in books like Jack Kerouac’s On the Road. It’s a show based in the genre commonly referred to as\, “Hip Hop Theater.” It’s a one man show where our lead\, a slim built Puerto Rican man with an afro\, plays everything from classical guitar\, to 17 different characters. This show is raw\, intelligent\, hard hitting\, emotionally stirring and socially piercing as audiences are compelled to think\, cry and laugh out loud. \nTickets start at $25 for General Admission and donations are also gratefully accepted to assist in bringing underserved youth and patrons to the shows. \nTo purchase a ticket to all three shows ($105 value for $75)\, follow this link: https://bit.ly/3SriQyc \n\n\n\n\nAbout the Artists: \nErnie Silva is a product of the Bushwick projects in Brooklyn New York. His creative career started at the age of 12. Eventually his musical side came calling to be recognized throughout his life which he developed himself while sleeping on odd couches\, random nights at hostels and homeless shelters\, and a few nights riding freight trains around the country. Heavy Like the Weight of a Flame\, is a one man show Ernie co-wrote with novelist James Gabriel. \nRuthy Otero -Just months after bringing her solo comedy “Dancing with my Demons” to Los Angeles\, Variety Magazine chose Ruthy Otero as one of the Ten Comics to Watch. She has performed the show in New York\, Los Angeles and in a kickboxing ring in Thailand. \nRuthy hails from The Bronx\, is a first-generation Puerto Rican-American\, and a graduate of NYU. Tonight she hopes to shine a light on the ridiculousness of being a human. \nEternal Mind twists\, bends\, breaks\, chops\, mixes\, and poetically shapes his world into spoken word — a responsibility he was taught to teach the youth. Through hard hitting imagery drenched in thought provoking style\, Eternal Mind unapologetically speaks his language and the elders say\, “When he speaks\, the ancestors are pleased.” It has been said that artists are the voice of the people. The vibration of Eternal Mind’s words resonates so deeply\, that we will indeed know the people have spoken. \nProgramming is an extension of Glendale Arts mission to connect artists and audiences by promoting\, encouraging\, and engaging with the arts \n\n\n
