A vaudeville performer herself\, Minnie coaxed\, pushed\, pulled\, and prodded the boys into their now-famous entity. Seldom seen but dearly loved\, this Larry Grossman/Hal Hackady tuneful and infectious score takes us through the zany early years of the brothers as they get their start in burlesque. You know their films\, but we bet you don’t know how it all started. \nAfter an unusually long preview period of 64 performances\, MINNIE’S BOYS opened in 1970 at Broadway’s Imperial Theatre. The musical\, which played a total of 80 regular performances\, was directed by Stanley Prager and starred Shelley Winters and Lewis J. Stadlen. The score includes the standout ‘Mama A Rainbow.’

Our Mission is based on the belief that our young people have a better chance of succeeding in their world if they appreciate and participate in its rich artistic and cultural traditions. GYO provides young musicians in grades 6-12 from all over L.A. County a unique opportunity to play classical music under the direction of Juilliard trained conductor Brad Keimach. The GYO has been a Resident Company of the Alex Theatre for 30 years. \nGLENDALE YOUTH ORCHESTRA\nBrad Keimach\, Conductor \nBEETHOVEN – Coriolan Overture\nSCHUBERT – Symphony No. 8 (‘Unfinished’)\nRAVEL – Tzigane\, for solo violin and orchestra\nRachel Mugemancuro\, violin\nMOZART – Symphony No. 35 (‘Haffner’) \nRachel Mugemancuro is a 9th grade student at Harvard-Westlake. She started playing the violin ten years ago and currently studies with Mihaela Ganea King. She has performed in multiple venues across the United States and was featured with Lang Lang on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno in October of 2012. She has been a member of the Glendale Youth Orchestra for six years. \nThere will be a Silent Auction to benefit the Scholarship Program. \nThe concert is funded in part by a grant from the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts. \nThe GYO is supported\, in part\, by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Arts Commission.

As bluntly sung at the top of show…’Life is what you do while you’re waiting to die.’ Earthy\, practical and ultimately true. \nZORBA opened on Broadway in 1968 in a production starring Hershel Bernardi and directed by Harold Prince. It ran for 305 performances and was nominated for 8 Tony© Awards with Boris Aronson winning for his scenic design. It was revived on Broadway in 1983 starring Anthony Quinn.

Grigorian who will take us on a musical journey through the different styles\, eras\, and Armenian composers of this age-old instrument. Grigorian will also discuss his signature modifications to the neck and bow of the kamancha. Enjoy the music of Sayat-Nova and the Armenian ashughs performed on the very instrument on which they were created.\n\n\nMAESTRO V. GRIGORIAN is a virtuoso kamancha player and artistic director-conductor of popular traditional instrumental ensembles in Armenia and abroad. He has received great acclaim as a soloist on concert stages of major cities in Europe\, Russia\, South America\, and the Middle East. In The United States\, he has performed for large audiences at The Kennedy Center\, Carnegie Hall\, Alex\, Kodak and Ford Theaters\, as well as in auditoriums of high schools\, colleges and universities. Grigorian graduated in 1984 from the Komilas State Conservatory of Yerevan\, where he later taught numerous young musicians the art of playing the kamancha. His Degree in music and practical application of his academic accomplishments has qualified him to fill positions as concert soloist\, orchestra conductor and lecturer. Mr. Grigorian has collaborated with the renowned dance-master Vanoush Khnamirian of the Armenian State Dance Company\, as artistic-director of his instrumental ensemble\, from 1974 to 1994. His creative musical arrangements have helped promote the popularity of this company to a level of unprecedented heights. In 1998\, Melodia released a recording of his unique music\, which gained wide distribution in Armenia and abroad. Grigorian has given talks on the Instrumental music of Armenia. He is a member of the Armenian Composers and Theater Arts Union\, and serves on the Committee for State Radio and Television. The Driving force behind Grigorian’s wide-ranging activities in music is his desire to make known the art of Armenian folk Instrumental music to audiences through concerts\, as well as in the context of folk Song-and-dance performances.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nPresented by Abril Bookstore.

DESCRIPTION:For the very first time\, producer/musician Bei Ru will share some of his favorite rare and obscure Armenian records from the 1960s-1980s. Bei Ru will be playing and discussing Armenian records from all over the globe\, handpicked from his personal collection\, along with stories about his record digging adventures. Join us for this special event in an intimate setting for one night only.\n \nBEI RU (Baruir Panossian) is a multi-genre music producer\, composer\, and artist based in Los Angeles. He came to prominence in 2010 after independently releasing his debut album\, Little Armenia\, which combined elements from vintage and obscure Armenian songs with electronic\, funk\, and hip-hop influences. Bei Ru went on to release two more albums\, Saturday Night At The Magic Lamp\, and LA ZOOO\, and is currently working on a new project set for release in late 2018. In addition to his own work\, Bei Ru has scored music for numerous films\, including the VICE Films release\, A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night (produced by Elijah Wood)\, I Promised Her Life\, and several others.
