SUMMARY:43rd Assembly District Photography Competition
DESCRIPTION:Assemblymember Laura Friedman is happy to announce that her office has begun taking submissions for the second 43rd Assembly District Photography Competition. \nLast year\, photographers used their talents and skills to explore and tell the stories of the communities that make up the 43rd Assembly District. This year\, she is again calling upon photographers to capture the identity of our communities and neighborhoods. \nTwenty photographs will be selected to be displayed at a gallery event hosted by Assemblymember Laura Friedman on October 11th in Glendale. At this event she will announce ten winning photographs that will be displayed at her Capitol and District offices for one year. \nAll ages and levels of proficiency are welcome to participate. Photographs will be judged anonymously by a panel of professional photographers. The works will be scored on the participant’s ability to communicate and capture the story of their community. \nYou must be a resident of Assembly District 43 to compete. All formats (digital\, film) will be accepted. Photo content must be presentable to general audiences; no photos containing violence\, profanity\, or other explicit subject matter will be accepted. \nSubmissions will be accepted online or by mail to the District Office. \n43rd Assembly District Photography Competition \nSubmissions Open August 19 – September 20 \nSelections Announced – October 1 \nGallery Event – Friday\, October 11 \nSubmit Your Work Now! \nOnline \nMail to: \n300 E. Magnolia Blvd.\, #504\, Burbank\, CA 91502 \n  \nCompetition Rules and Guidelines \n1. Limit two entries per person. \n2. Photographs must have been taken within the 43rd Assembly District by residents who live in the 43rd District. Only photographs of the district and by residents of the district will be accepted. \n3. Works must be submitted by the person who originally took the photograph. \n4. Photographs should be no older than January 1\, 2017. Newer photographs taken for the competition are preferred. \n5. Works containing violence\, profanity\, or other explicit subject matter not suitable for a general audience will not be considered in the competition. \n6. Works will be judged blindly by a panel of professional photographers on the following criteria: Technique\, Aesthetics\, and their ability to capture the story and essence of their neighborhood or community within AD43. Submissions will be considered in two categories: amateur and professional. \n

DESCRIPTION:CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS\nThis Call For Submissions is for a Beyond The Box utility box mural event that will take place on October 18-20\, 2019\, with selected utility boxes located throughout the City of Glendale.\nArtists may begin painting utility boxes on Friday\, October 18\, 2019. Painting and application of the final protective coating must be completed by Sunday\, October 20\, 2019. DESCRIPTION:The Brand Associates present:   \nBRAND 47 – 47th Annual National Juried Exhibition of Works on Paper \nSeptember 7 – October 25\, 2019 \nTicketed Paper preView Event: Saturday\, September 7\, 5:30-7:00pm (tickets on sale now) \nThe Annual National Juried Exhibition of Works on Paper has been organized and sponsored by the Brand Associates since 1971 in cooperation with the City of Glendale Library\, Arts & Culture Department. It is one of the region’s most prestigious juried shows\, drawing entries from across the country.  Over the years the exhibition has evolved to include an increasingly diverse array of three-dimensional artworks as well as an expanding range of approaches to the two-dimensional paper surface. Exhibition chairperson\, Debra Thompson\, is a Director of the Brand Associates and an adjunct Assistant Professor of Art History at Glendale Community College.  This year’s juror\, Alma Ruiz joins a distinguished roster of jurors who have given their time\, energy and expertise over the 47 years this exhibition has been mounted. Included among these artists\, gallerists\, curators\, and educators are Edward Goldman (2018)\, Leslie Jones (2017)\, Jack Rutberg (2014)\, Peter Frank (2011)\, Lita Albuquerque (2007)\, Ruth Weisberg (1985) and Millard Sheets (1979) among many other prominent arts professionals.
