Guggenheim and YouTube Seek Budding Video Artists

For artists, being included in a museum exhibition generally means first having to penetrate the well-guarded gates of a prestigious art gallery. But now the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and YouTube are aiming to short-circuit that exclusionary art-world system, at least briefly, in much the same way that other hierarchical systems have been blown apart in the Internet age.

Artists are invited to participate in Glendale’s 6th Annual Open Studio Tour (OST) which will be held on Saturday, July 24. Glendale artists and art organizations will open up their studios to the public. This self-guided tour is FREE and offers a rare opportunity to see the works of many of the talented award-winning artists who live and work in City of Glendale. All OST participating artists will be eligible to exhibit in the Brand Library Art Gallery from July 17 to August 13.
Applications are available online at: www.GlendaleArtsandCulture.org. Submissions will be accepted by mail and in person on Friday, May 28 from noon to 5:00 pm at the Cultural Affairs office, 613 E. Broadway, Room 120.

A few weeks ago, Rocco Landesman, the chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, was in the East Room of the White House as President Obama conferred this year's National Medal of Arts on Jessye Norman, Rita Moreno, Maya Lin and Michael Tilson Thomas, among others.
On Monday, the cowboy-booted country music fan and self-described "recovering producer" who made his name on Broadway spent about 90 minutes in a very different neighborhood.

Six Glendale artists join 53 other artists in the Pasadena Society of Artists (PSA) 85th Annual Juried Exhibition from March 17 to April 3, 2010 at VIVA Art Center at13261 Moorpark Street in Sherman Oaks. The artists’ reception and awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, March 21 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
